For some, the love for film and video starts at a young age, where hours spent in front of a screen leads to a lifelong passion for visual storytelling. In fact, falling in love with cinematic experiences as a child can be an essential foundation for honing your craft as an adult.
We recently had the pleasure of interviewing Eddie Granillo, a seasoned Director of Photography who has been working with Lemonlight for the past seven years. He’s certainly one of those people whose love for visual storytelling began as a child and has been the driving force behind his work. Eddie attributes his success to his passion, positive attitude, and love for connecting with others in the space. Check out the full interview below to learn more about Eddie’s experiences and insights into the video production industry.
How many years have you worked with Lemonlight?
I’ve worked with Lemonlight for seven Years. I started with a shoot for Galvanize back in 2016.
Favorite project at Lemonlight?
A favorite project at Lemonlight? Oooh there are many, but the two that stand out are the multi-day shoot I had last year with the Marin County Sheriff Department where I spent several days riding in police vehicles and shooting the different aspects of their department! That was a blast! I also enjoyed the multi-day City of Fremont video where I had the chance to shoot all over the city and capture the essence of what Fremont had to offer.
Best part about working with Lemonlight?
Most definitely the staff of producers and coordinators who help put each and every project together. They are always there to help and answer questions regarding the clients and whatnot. They make each shoot easy and simple. You always look forward to the next Lemonlight shoot.
Why do you love the video production industry?
My love for video and film began as a child. I always knew this industry is where I wanted to be. As a kid I used to binge-watch movies and still do today. I love cameras and camera work as well as directing. For years now, my emphasis has been on improving my cinematography skills. I love that every project is an opportunity to travel and meet new people but most importantly to create and tell stories. There’s just something to be said about making beautiful visuals.
Favorite crew meal?
One can never go wrong with great pizza on set along with a yummy salad! A sandwich is a good runner up.
Advice for those just starting in the industry?
Look at every shoot, whether small or big, as an opportunity to improve and learn your craft. Always be passionate and have a positive attitude, as that goes a long way, especially with the variety of shoots one encounters starting out. Attitude, respect, and passion are 3 very important ingredients for success. Oh and don’t forget to network and meet people, because that alone makes a world of a difference!
