The juice lemonlight crew spotlight.

Lemonlight has carved out a niche for itself in the video production industry by emphasizing quality and creativity in every project it undertakes. Sound operators play a significant role in this process, as they are responsible for everything from mic placements to the final audio mix, ensuring that the final product is not just seen but felt by its audience. Their work goes beyond merely recording sound; it involves creating an auditory experience that complements and enhances the visual narrative. One might say they are the unsung heroes behind the scenes, blending technical skill with creative problem-solving to capture the perfect audio landscape.

In a conversation with Caroline May, we get a glimpse into the world of video production through the lens of a sound operator. Caroline shares her experiences, challenges, and the lessons she’s learned over her year working with Lemonlight.

How long have you worked with Lemonlight?

I’ve been working with Lemonlight for one year.

What’s the best part about working with Lemonlight?

I love that Lemonlight gives me consistent work and the chance to meet really interesting clients.

Why do you love the video production industry?

I love problem solving. Oftentimes you only get one shot at getting it right, so you have to be able to come up with creative solutions on the fly. Successfully navigating that type of environment is very satisfying to me.

What’s your favorite crew meal/snack?

I’m a huge Sweetgreen fan!

Do you have any advice for those just starting in the industry?

Test your gear at least two days before any job, so you have time to fix it or rent a replacement if there’s a problem. I wish someone had told me that.

How has working at Lemonlight influenced or shaped your approach to video production overall?

It has taught me networking skills I didn’t get working for other companies, because I often work with the same crew. I learned how to build lasting relationships with other freelancers.

What’s a behind-the-scenes story or anecdote from a project that you think best represents the video production process at Lemonlight?

Once as I was leaving a job, one of the clients said to me, “I hope you learned something!” It made me realize I actually did learn a lot from listening to them talk so passionately about what they do. I love seeing the inner workings of so many different industries.
