Online pet retailer Chewy is our choice for this week’s must-watch video with its new spot aimed at pet owners and pet lovers. The video shows a Zoom call, as many ads (and SNL sketches) have shown lately. But this is no ordinary Zoom call. It’s a pet playdate.
The video shows the pet owners commiserating over their pet hardships while working from home, like dogs asking for walks 24/7 and cats walking away as you serenade them.
It also highlights the way pets have, in many ways, become beacons of joy during COVID-related isolation. Between shelters adopting out all their animals and the daily delights of pet ownership, animals are a bright spot in a difficult time. Chewy’s ad makes the connection beautifully, using the hashtag #PetsBringUsTogether to focus on the power of pets to unite us.
Plus, in a fun detail of authenticity, the pets featured in the video actually belong to the actors that are featured, putting a twist on the regular process of hiring trained pets for commercials.
